New Guitar Hero Guitar Not So Gibson-Like

New Guitar Hero Guitar Not So Gibson-Like
Activision, maker of Guitar Hero, has sent pictures showing off its new peripherals for the next game in the Guitar Hero series, World Tour, and it's noticeable that the new guitar accompanying it is not a Gibson, sending a strong signal that the two companies are still at odds with each other. In May Gibson filed a claim in court that the company infringed on a 1999 patent, even though it had worked with the company for years by allowing its Les Paul guitar likeness to be used. Activision quickly filed a countersuit.

In other Guitar Hero news, Beatles representatives are in talks with Activision about creating a Beatles-themed game, according to a report on the Financial Times website. A source has apparently said that should a deal materialize it will be worth millions of dollars and could be reached in a matter of weeks.Industry observers can't help but notice that the speed of this deal stands in stark contrast to how slowly the rights holders of The Beatles' music typically move. For example, Sir Paul McCartney has been saying for years that they are "very close" to a deal with Apple's iTunes to allow The Beatles' music to be purchased through the online vendor, without an arrangment ever materializing.
